Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia)

Greetings from Cheryl and Lester!!

I have attached a photo of an owl (not one you are looking for!). This owl
is actually sitting about half a metre from Cheryl's feet. She was sitting
on a chair on our balcony and it flew in and landed on the floor in front of
her. When it realized it had landed next to this possibly fierce animal
(Cheryl) it froze in terror and just stared at her. After a while Cheryl
started talking to it and it calmed down and relaxed. After a long while it
flew off.

Unfortunately I was inside and had to take a photo through the glass sliding
door so the quality is poor despite how close he was. By the way it is a
Burrowing owl - quite common here.

We see such varied bird life. We have just returned from an hour walk before
sunset in our 'garden' ( the many hectares of lovely hotel grounds) and saw
birds ranging from humming birds to Magnificent frigate birds to spotted
sand pipers to parakeets and parrotlets to Tyrants and Tanagers to Vultures.

Thanks for continuing to keep us updated on all your activities. Its always
great to hear what is going on back home!

Please pass our regards on to Barry and the rest of the gang.

All the best

Cheryl and Lester (In Brazil)
